  • Metformin and goats rue?

    Hi!

my doctor is putting me on metformin to treat PCOS. I have a 3 month old daughter and am
Currently breastfeeding with a low supply and taking goats rue (along with other supplements) to help. I've read that goats rue is related to metformin. Should I discontinue it when I begin metformin or is it safe to take both?

    thank you in advance!

    Horselo285,

We would recommend stopping the goats rue when you start taking the metformin because theoretically, concomitant use could potentiate hypoglycemic drug effects. Some mothers have reported an increase in milk supply with the metformin, but no data to support this.
