  • Breastfeeding and Vibryd

I have a mom who has a LPT baby in NICU. She has experienced significant postpartum depression in the past and went off Zoloft because she found Vibryd was more effective in helping her manage her mood. She took it all through pregnancy and would like to continue during breastfeeding. Do you have any specific concerns or considerations regarding the use of this medication during breastfeeding?

    NICUlac,

Viibryd is rated an L3. At present there are no data on its transfer into human milk; however, this medication has high protein binding (96-99%) and a relatively good size molecular weight (477 Daltons) which may limit the amount that enters human milk. The infant would have received more in utero than they will in breast milk. Monitor the infant for sedation or irritability, not waking to feed/poor feeding, diarrhea and weight gain. If the infant is not symptomatic it is probably ok.

Yes definitely! As long as she was guided by Physician with proper dosage.
