  • Appendicitis- is piperacillin/tazobactam sage for breastfeeding?

I had surgery for my appendicitis and it seems my doctors don’t quite know when I can nurse again. I pumped and dumped so far but i will probably be discharged today. My baby is 5 months old and drank what I was able to pump (5oz) before I started medication and now reduses The donated breastmilk of my cousin. She last nursed 36 hours ago. I had hydromorphine till before surgery. I am currently on tazocin (piperacillin and tazobactam) and on heparin. Please advise. My baby is miserable without me!

    CHidfu:

Heparin, tazocin, and hydromorphone are OK as along as the dose of hydromorphine is not too high < 4 mg every 4 hours. This dose has led to infant sedation, so keep it below this dose.
