  • Hydrocodone 7.5

My baby is 9 weeks old and ive been prescribed hydrocodone 7.5 once a day as need and Ive been exclusively breastfeeding this whole time with no noticeable problem but can it build up and eventually hurt her

Also if I supplement formula for a few feedings after taking the hydrocodone will that help?

    SophiaRose,

Hydrocodone has a short half-life of 3.8 hours, it will be completely out of your system in about 22 hours. Take the medication after you nurse and wait 2-3 hours to nurse to avoid the peak times. Monitor your infant for sedation, poor feedings, slowed breathing rate, apnea, constipation and weight gain, these possible side effects are unlikely given the fact you are only taking the medication once a day.
