  • Zinc arginate and zinc glycinate

Are zinc arginate and zinc glycinate safe forms of zinc to take while pregnant? They are part of a multivitamin that I take.

    Chiredhead:

Just a word of caution. Early postnatally, zinc transfer into milk is accelerated for a few days to a week. After this they are minimal. So I recommend against large oral doses of zinc in breastfeeding women.

So the risk would depend on the dose. Check the dose in your multivitamin with the RDA below to see how they compare. Most multivitamin substitutes rarely have more than the minimal daily allowance.

Thank you very much, Dr Hale. I will keep this in mind for nursing. Could you please tell me if these forms of zinc are safe during pregnancy?
