  • Synthroid and breastfeeding

I am taking Synthroid (88 ug/day) to treat hypothyroidism during pregnancy. I would like to understand the safety of this medication during breastfeeding. After delivery, I would expect my dose to be stepped down and stopped.
    Your guidance is much appreciated.

    Tap:

Remember, you are taking synthroid to make you have a "normal" thyroxine (T4) level. Hence, there is absolutely no risk to a breastfed infant.

Simethicone is not rated during pregnancy. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. However, this product is completely unabsorbed, and is highly unlikely to cause birth defects. Hope this information helps.
