  • 33 weeks - opiates

    Dr. hale,

I am currently 33 weeks pregnant and as of yesterday am completely off of my prescribed pain meds. I weaned down to a low dose so my withdrawals have been pretty minimal, just a bit uncomfortable with some night sweats. My doctor is doing a membrane sweep at 38 weeks. Do you think if the sweep is successful and the baby is born around that time, that 5 weeks is adequate for the baby to avoid withdrawal?

Any input Dr. Hale? Thank you!

5 weeks should be more than enough to reduce the risk of withdrawal in the infant.

Do infants go into withdrawal in utero pretty much immediately? Like adults usually do? I’m curious as to why they say it can take longer for infants to withdrawal

          Dr. hale,

do you know about when withdrawal begins in utero? If it lasted for me for about 4-5 days, is that about how long it lasts for the baby?
