  • Opiates while pregnant

I have been addicted to opiates long before I found out I was pregnant.I didn't find out I was pregnant until almost 30 weeks. I quit cold turkey at 32 weeks. My question is even though I have quit cold turkey and my urine is clean from opiates will the baby still be born addicted even though I am no longer addicted? Will the baby still come up dirty for opiates? Will the baby still develope NAS even though I quit at 32 weeks? Thanks.

    Ahanson813,

Meconium drug testing can detect maternal drug use during the last 4 to 5 months of pregnancy. It is unlikely your infant would have withdrawal symptoms if you have been off of opiates for 6-8 weeks prior to delivery.

Ahanson813, what ever happened with your little one.
Were they NAS free when born?
