  • D-ribose

A mother I am helping is wondering about the safety of --ribose while breastfeeding. I am having a difficult time finding any research on the matter. Do you have any insight I could share with her?

    NHolton,

D-ribrose is an herbal product and we have a policy not to recommend on herbals because they have not been studied and they are not FDA regulated. The D-ribrose under the Natural Standard data base states for an adult it is possibly safe when used short term and appropriately, but under pregnancy and lactation it states insufficient data avoid using, we do not have any information as to how much could transfer into the breast milk, or how it could affect an infant. D-ribrose can also interfere with several medications and herbal products such as aspirin, trilisate, insulin, propranolol, salsalate, devil's claw, fenugreek, guar gum, panax ginsing, siberian ginsing and others. I hope this helps. Thanks,
