  • Gluten Allergy/reactivity and breastmilk

How is Gluten passed through breast milk when consumed in low amounts by a mother? Will a child showing Gluten/Wheat sensitivity require that breastfeeding mothers (even if it is only a few times a day) give up gluten for the remainder of the nursing? I ask because I am not sure how Gluten is processed in the body. I know that milk and soy had to be removed from my diet due to my daughter's allergies.

    Angela:

There are numerous papers in PubMed concerning gluten and breastfeeding. This is not my area of expertise and I'd suggest you go to pubmed and do some reading.

Sorry, I can't really help you.
