  • CoQ10, L-tyrosine, L-theanine

I am breastfeeding my 10 month old baby and have horrible fatigue and often get irritated very easily. I have been looking online and would like to try CoQ10, L-tyrosine and L-theanine (not all at once) but I'm worried it's not safe while breastfeeding. I know there aren't many studies done but I was hoping it's ok to try since my baby is 10 months old.

    alueb,

CoQ10 (ubiquinone) is rated an L3-no data-probably compatible. If the dose is kept relatively low like 50-100mg a day it is probably ok, but do not use high doses.

L-tyrosine is not in our database. According to the Natural Medicine database it is possibly safe in adults when used in amounts commonly found in foods. During lactation there is no data concerning the safety when used in medicinal amounts. L-tyrosine can cause nausea, headache, fatigue, heartburn, and joint pain. Since there are no studies, and these supplements are not FDA regulated we cannot advise on the safety of using them while breastfeeding.

L-theanine is not in our database. According to the Natural Medicine database it is possibly safe in adults when used low dose and short term (250mg once a week for 3 weeks). During lactation there is no safety data available. It can lower blood pressure and negatively affect mental status.
