  • Lipiodol during breastfeeding

    Hi,
Any information on ethiodized oil during breastfeeding?
    Thanks.

    Nathalie:

Lipiodol contains 37% of weight as Iodine. Once injected in the body, the iodine rapidly distributes to various tissues, particularly the breast in a breastfeeding mother. Probably 28% of the dose would end up in the breast. This might be enough to suppress thyroid function in the infant.

I'd suggest the mom pump and discard her milk for up to a week to facilitate the elimination of all this Iodine.
