  • CT scan lung and breastfeeding

I just has a Ct scan of my lungs and was told not to nurse for 3 days as the iodine I got through rapid infusion IV is not safe for my toddler. Is this the case? Do I need to wait 3 days or can I nurse when I get home to bubs?

Rainbow: this is not accurate. CT scans use bound iodine preparations. They release only microscopic levels of free iodine. With this form of contrast agent, you can breastfeed almost immediately. I generally recommend to pump and discard for one or two times after the contrast agent and then return to breastfeeding.
