  • Formaldehyde

    Hi Dr Hale,
I have a mom that is going to have formaldehyde treatment on the soles of her feet to remove warts. This will be a topical treatment 2-3 times. Is it safe for her to breastfeed?? I couldn't find any information on the topical use of this but know that most topical treatments are safe while breastfeeding.
Thanks for any information you might have.

    Melissa:

Yes, the mom should be able to return to breastfeeding. I'd suggest she wait a few hours (3 at most). Formaldehyde is easily metabolized by the human and little would be absorbed from the feet.

Just have her wait a while before returning to breastfeeding.
