melloberg, thanks for posting,
Elmiron is probably ok to use while breastfeeding, it is structurally related to dextran sulfate with a molecular weight of 4,000-6,000 daltons. Oral bioavailability is low, only 6% is absorbed systemically. Although no data are available on its transfer into human milk, its large molecular weight and poor oral bioavailability would largely preclude the transfer and absorption of clinically relevant amounts in breastfed infants. We advise monitoring the infant for vomiting and diarrhea.
Uribel, however contains 5 different medications some of which are not good choices while breastfeeding, so we would not recommend using this medication. I hope this helps, if you have any other questions please call the InfantRisk Center
at 806-352-2519. Thanks,
Sandra Lovato R.N.
