Do you have information on the medication Aciphex/ rabeprazole and it's use in breastfeeding a newborn. Used by mom with Chrons.

Hi, thanks for your post.
All of the proton pump inhibitors (end in -prazole) are destroyed by stomach acid. The capsule or tablet coating gives them some protection while passing through the stomach, so that they can be absorbed by the intestines. The little bit of drug that passes from the mother's blood into the breastmilk does not have that same protection from the baby's stomach acid. These drugs are very safe to use in breastfeeding mothers because virtually none of the drug makes it to the baby's intestines.
