  • Volbella Lip Filler and Breastfeeding

Hi I saw some older forum posts about facial fillers but was wondering if there is any new information about facial/lip fillers and breastfeeding? Ideally I would wait until I was finished breastfeeding but I have several big events coming up where I’d like to look my best and don’t want to wean my 9 month old just yet.

I was planning to get 1/2 cc Juvéderm volbella filler which is made up of hyaluronic acid gel, lidocaine hydrochloride and phosphate buffer. If it is safe, is there a recommendation to pump and dump? Thanks!

    Mally:

Most of these dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, which is a large polymer, that stays in the area injected and slowly resorbs over months. Thus it is of no risk to a breastfed infant. Lidocaine is gone in an hour or two. So I'd just wait a few hours after the procedure and return to breastfeeding.

Thank you Dr Hale! I will wait a few hours after the procedure before I nurse again.
