    Dr. Hale,

I recently had my eyes dialated without giving it any thought that I am currently breastfeeding. The medication used was called Pyramed. I nursed my baby after completely my eye exam. Is there any risk to my baby?

    Thank you so much!

    ccstein,

We suggest waiting 3-4 hours to nurse after using Paremyd to dilate the pupils, but very little of this medication is absorbed topically in the eye, so if you nursed your infant and he did not have any anticholinergic symptoms such as dry mouth, mydriasis, sedation, or tachycardia there should not be a problem, the wait is advised to eliminate most risk.
