    Hi,

I’m exclusively breastfeeding my 3 month old healthy infant. Is it safe for me to take an oral serum-derived bovine immunoglobulin supplement? The brands I’m considering are SBIProtect or EnteraGam.

This specific supplement has not been studied in breastfeeding women, so we do not have direct data on its safety during lactation. Based on its composition and the available information, there is no obvious mechanism that would suggest a significant risk to a breastfed infant. However, it’s important to note that dietary supplements are not regulated or monitored by the FDA for safety, purity, or consistency in the same way that medications are. This means the exact ingredients and their concentrations may vary between products or batches, and contaminants or undeclared components are possible. Because of this lack of regulatory oversight and clinical safety data, we cannot provide a definitive recommendation regarding its use during breastfeeding. If you choose to proceed, doing so cautiously and monitoring your infant for any unusual symptoms would be reasonable.
