• Flunarizine and Breastfeeding

A mother (with a 5 months infant) had side effects from the COVID-19 vaccine. She accidentally took one capsule (5 mg) of Sobelin (Flunarizine) before consulting the lactation consultant. Her infant is exclusive breastfeeding and she did not pump - only breastfeed her infant. According to Hale's Medications and Mothers' Milk (2021), Flunarizine is L4 and the half-life is 19 days. It is very difficult to manage this case to continue breastfeeding without your help. If the waiting time should be 19 days, this mother will face with difficult time. Thank you so much for your suggestion.

Hi Lactation Clinic,

I recommend you call our hotline to get individualized care. We are open from 8-5 CST Monday through Friday. We do our best with the limited resources we have. If you aren't able to get through right away, please keep trying! You might also direct this mom to our form to donate her milk for research: https://www.infantrisk.com/help-infantrisk-research

All the best,
Kaytlin Krutsch, PharmD
