  • Adderall XR and 2 year old breastfeeding

    Hello,

I've been suffering with ADHD for a long time and have been prescribed Adderall XR 10mg. I tried Ritalin and it did not work for me.

My son is 2 years old, 27lbs and still breastfeeding. Mostly for comfort, I would say only 2 to 3 feeding are actual feeds. He does eat regular food and drink.

Will taking the Adderall affect him at all at this age? I see topics of watching out for effects on infants but not toddlers. I will be taking this medicine only once a day.

    Thank you.

    MsSilverSpecs,

Adderall is rated an L3-limited data, probably compatible. The amount that transfers into breast milk is 2.46-7.25% of your dose. We recommend keeping the dose low 20mg or less a day. Take the medication after you nurse so you have a break before feeding again. Monitor your infant for agitation, hyperactivity, insomnia, decreased appetite, weight gain, tremor.
