  • Lisinopril and breast feeding

    Hi,

I have HTN and my dr put me on lisinopril 2.5 mg 1x a day… my son is 16 months old and breastfeeds maybe 2-3x a day max.. I only produce about 6-8 oz a day… it’s mainly just comfort feeding at this point. Am I okay to continue breastfeeding while taking lisinopril? There isn’t a lot of data I can find that states it safe or not safe..

    thank you in advance!

    Hi Aradiga1,

There is no current data on the transfer of lisinopril into breast milk or infant outcomes (we're studying it now!). We prefer the use of drugs that have this data, like enalapril or captopril. However, at the lowest dose of lisinopril (2.5 mg), with an older infant, and low milk volume the risk is quite low.
