Hi, I am still nursing my 20 month old 2-3 times/day. I am having some anaphylactic reactions and so my doctor prescribed me 10mg/day with Singulair and I am getting/reading different answers to whether it is safe to use. I will most likely be on it for a month and then taper off.

Dear Sarahmb,
We do not have data on how much Singulair enters human milk. This product does not enter the Central Nervous System nor many other tissues. Dr. Hale thinks the levels in breastmilk will probably be quite low based on the kinetics of the drug. The time the drug would be highest in your milk is two to four hours after the dose, and half of the drug would be gone by five hours. Since you only breastfeed two to three times daily, by breastfeeding first, then taking your dose that would decrease risk to your child. Also since your child is older, he/she should be able to process medications quite well now.
Sincerely,
Cindy Pride, MSN, CPNP
