  • Flovox and clonazepam

Question from a pregnant mom who takes Fluvoxamine 100mg daily and clonazepam 2 mg daily for the past 10 years for extreme anxiety. She is due to have her baby in January .

She is wondering what she can expect for her baby once delivered ( withdrawal symptoms) as well as safety for breastfeeding.
    Thank you

    Kim:

Fluvoxamine is OK and Clonazepam is probably OK as well. Remember, the amount the infant gets during pregnancy is quite a bit more than from breastmilk. In fact, your infant will probably go through a minor withdrawal after delivery. This occurs with some antidepressants. It goes away quickly in a day or so.

I'd suggest these are quite compatible with breastfeeding. The baby will get about 0.3% - 1.4% of the fluvoxamine dose per day, and only about 2.8% of the Clonazepam dose. These are considered very low.

Remember, a "healthy" mom make a "healthier baby".
