    Calcium supplement needed. Please help

    11-19-2017, 11:38 PM
    Dear Professor Hale

I am still breastfeeding my 18 month old infant.
She is allergic to dairy so her and I have no dairy in our diet.

The dentist advised me that I need to go on a calcium supplement as small pieces of my teeth are falling off and she says it's possibly from breastfeeding and a lack of calcium. ( Also from having no dairy). The details of the supplement that she suggested I take is below. NRF Seleni Vite calcium. Please advise if I can take it or should I try something else. Or just not take a supplement rather?

    Thanks. Nikita

    Nikita Munro,

We do not have data on some of these elements such as the Vanadium and the Molybdenum, so cannot advise on the safety of these. They maybe ok, but according to wiki, doses of 10mg/day of Molybdenum used chronically in animal studies can cause toxicity with side effects such as diarrhea, growth retardation, infertility, low birth weight, and gout, it can also affect the lungs, kidneys, and liver. There are no human toxicity studies available. The other ingredients look ok. You may want to use OsCal that does not contain these elements.
