Pradaxa??

Any info on Pradaxa use in nursing mothers? Pt is currently on warfarin but does not want to continue on it for long as she could get pregnant (does not use birth control). She is currently breastfeeding her 9-week-old daughter and would like to breastfeed as long as possible.

Dear foster_sk,
Unfortunately, we don't have any data on the transfer of Pradaxa into human milk. However, the oral bioavailability is low at 6.5 % (this means that the baby would only be able to absorb 6.5% of the dose ingested via milk); therefore, minimal transfer is expected.
