I need to have a device placed to correct a heart defect. My cardiologist is going to put me on Plavix for 6 months after the procedure. My son is 5 months old. I am considering waiting until he is 10 months old to have the procedure. I would like to breastfeed until he is 1. Is there any new data on the safety of breastfeeding while on plavix? Lactation consultants and cardiologist said it would be best not to breastfeed on it since not enough information is known. Pediatrician said it is okay to continue breastfeeding. Not sure what I should do. Any advice is appreciated.
