I have been diagnosed with a uti. Dr has prescribed 500mg of cipro twice a day for 10 days. Is there a safer alternative? What medication(s) are safest to take?

    JHO:

The InfantRisk Center generally recommends trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole 160/800 mg twice daily for three days (don't use during the first 2 weeks postpartum) . OR, ciprofloxacin 250 mg every 12 hours for three days. An alternative, is nitrofurantoin, but again don't use early postnatally, due to bilirubinemia problems.
