  • Itraconazole

I have a fungal skin infection that has been resistant to topical treatment and would like to try a short course of oral itraconazole 200mg daily for a week. I am currently breastfeeding a 22 month old who nurses about 3 times daily. Would this be safe?

Yes. Itraconazole was commonly used many years ago in breastfeeding mothers.

    Should be fine.

Thanks so much for your response. From what I have looked up only about 1.5% of an infant dose gets in milk is that pretty consistent with your information?

        Midwestmommy:

From the one study we have, the Relative Infant Dose is actually only 0.1837% of the maternal dose. Quite low.
