  • Arestin for periodontal disease

My dentist would like to treat my periodontal disease with Arestin placed locally at 8 sites in the gums. I am currently breastfeeding a 7 week old. My dentist has assured me that this is safe during nursing, but the manufacturer’s warnings advise against breastfeeding use. Is the above-referenced course of treatment safe while nursing?

CLMA: Arestin consists of the old tetracycline called minocycline. However, the dose is miniscule, 1 mg. I would not be concerned at all about the use of this drug in such low doses.
