  • Doxycycline

Hello - I was prescribed doxycycine to treat my mastitis. My daughter was 5 weeks old at the time. I stopped breastfeeding/pumping all together and switched her to formula at the time as her jaundice was not going away. I would occasionally pump to relieve pressure of engorgement. My question is is that during one of the pumping sessions I fed my daughter the milk. This would have been after a full day of my last dose of doxycycline (so I have not taken the drug in about a day) only one feeding of about 4 oz, and she was 5 weeks at the time. Is there any concern for the baby given this scenario?

    Barb2020,

We recommend that doxycycline is ok to nurse with for short term use of 3 weeks or less as long as your infant is not symptomatic, vomiting, diarrhea, rash or thrush. Nursing your infant one time is not a problem.
