  • Toradol and breastfeeding

Hi, we are having controversy at work over whether Toradol, a fabulous nonsedating analgesic, can be given to breastfeeding moms. We have given in the past but there is currently a box warning on it and the Ob's, in consultation with peds, will now no longer give it. Our other choices in the immediate post c/section period are narcotics, either PCA or IV dosing. Then the mothers become so sedated they are unable to care for their babies. I've read that the prostaglandin inhibitor effects of Toradol are the problem, didn't we go through this with motrin. Usually the most we give the moms is 30mg IV q 6 hours for the first 24 hours. Help, we are desperate.
