Is it safe for me to have Lidocaine while breastfeeding my 6 month old? I don't pump and baby won't take a bottle so it's important that I be able to breastfeed right away. My dentist didn't seem to have much info about it. All she said was its pretty safe which doesn't make me feel very comfterable. I have been reading that there is lidocaine and lidocaine with epinephrine is one safer than the other? How long does it take for it to completely leave your system? I have so much anxiety thinking about anything dangerous entering her little body. 😔

    Shaylajsahler, thanks for posting,

Lidocaine is rated L-2-limited data-probably compatible. The amount transferred in milk is 0.5-3.1% of your dose. It ok to breastfeed after having lidocaine and epinephrine as a dental procedure, the only time we would tell you different is if it was injected directly into your breast for a procedure. The half-life of lidocaine is 1.8 hours, it takes 6 half-lives to be out of your system so in 10.8 hours it is gone. Epinephrine has a half-life of 2 minutes so it will be out in about 12 minutes. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please call the InfantRisk Center at 806-352-2519. Thanks,
