  • flurbiprofen

I have a lactating mom who had ansaid recommended for her MCL injury. As she had never heard of the medication, she is concerned for its safety in breastfeeding. Could I get your recommendation?

    Thank you in advance.

    Dear Midwifemichelle,

Flurbiprofen (Ansaid) is a nonsteroidal analgesic similar in structure to ibuprofen but used both as an ophthalmic preparation (in eyes) and orally. In two studies, levels in milk were either undetectable in most cases(50mg/day dose), or as high as 90 ?g/L (single 100 mg dose). Both of these studies suggest that the amount of flurbiprofen transferred into human milk would be clinically insignificant to the infant.
