  • Ultrasound-Guided Facet Joint Injection & Voltaren Gel

    Hello,

An ultrasound-guided lumbar facet joint injection was recommended using the following compounds.

    40 mg of Depomedrol
    5 – 7 cc of 1% Lidocaine
    2 cc omnipaque

Can you please let me know if these are safe while breastfeeding, if I will need to postpone breastfeeding (& how long) and how long the compounds might be going into my breastmilk and will expose my daughter to them? I have a 14 month old daughter who is a picky eater with solids and probably gets ~75% of her nutrition from breastmilk.

In the interim (before the injection), topical 1% Voltaren gel was recommended. Is this safe while breastfeeding if using up to 2-4gm TID?

    Thank you!

Sorry, I meant "x-ray guided", not ultrasound.

      Delta,

All of these medications are L2's, and all have small transfer rates. We would recommend waiting about 4-5 hours to get to a half-life.
