I’m starting a new medication (by new I mean I haven’t been on it before and it was just recently approved by the FDA) for treatment of a large abdominal desmoid tumor. There is no data for breastfeeding and this medication. I also just had a baby in November and am broken about the team telling me I need to stop breastfeeding. I’m planning on pumping and dumping for the duration of this medication in hopes that I can breastfeed her when she’s closer to 1 and maybe I’ll be off the medication. But I want to know, is it the no data aspect that they’re advising me to stop breastfeeding or do similar drugs pass through breast milk. I want to donate my milk to help other mothers potentially having to take this medication too. Maybe something good to come out of this traumatizing experience.

We do not have any data on this medication, but would love to have milk samples to be able to help answer questions in the future. I am sorry that you are having to make this choice, but do agree that the potential risk of this drug could be harmful to your baby. Here is the link to fill out so that we can contact you about milk samples: https://www.infantrisk.com/help-infantrisk-research . Thank you for your willingness to help future moms.

Thank you for answering my post. One of the more distressing points is seeing that there’s just no data. So somewhere outside of my rational mind I think it gives me hope even tho realistically I know it’s likely not safe. So even if the data says HECK NO SUPER HARMFUL TO BABY at least it’s because of data from breastmilk. Thank you for the link I’ve filled it out and look forward to helping other women going through this have some answers.
