  • Breastfed 12 hours after hida scan?

My two year old still nurses. I had a hida scan done yesterday at 8am but waited until about 10pm to nurse. I was told to wait 2-3 days but we co sleep and she ended up nursing while I was sleeping.. will she be okay or should I be worried?? I also did not pump and dump(don’t have a pump anymore)

    Tina:

There's no problem at all here. HIDA scans use radioactive Technetium-99. This is a really weak isotope and most nuclear authorities don't even recommend interrupting breastfeeding at all as it is not dangerous at all to an infant.

Tc-99 has a half life of only 6 hours. I generally recommend pumping and discarding for 3-4 half lives, but this is just because most any woman can do this easily.

In your case, you have nothing to worry about.
