  • Tretinoin liquid to use inside mouth during breastfeeding

    Good morning,
My patient has been diagnosed with lichen planus, and has changes in mouth. She has been prescribed tretynoin in liquid to use on these changes for 5 weeks. Her baby is 10 months. She has been advised to stop breastfeeding. The liquid is 0,05%, there is 0,5mg of tretinoin in 1 ml. She would use much less than 1 ml twice a day. Taking this dose into consideration, is it really necessary to stop breastfeeding?
As always I would much appreciate your opinion.
    Best Regards,

    Karolina:

Used orally, tretinoin could be potentially hazardous, particularly since this vitamin A derivative is rather well absorbed orally.
I would NOT recommend breastfeeding following oral use.

    Sorry.
