  • Removal of nevus

I have a suspicious nevus on my breast. I am going to the dermatologist to have it checked out. If the doctor wants to remove it or biopsy it, is that still ok since it is right there on my breast? I am worried about the medications, I'm assuming lidocaine with epi or some other local anesthetic, physically getting into the milk since it is so close. Also, would a procedure there be advised? I don't want to affect my milk supply or cause a blockage somewhere. I just want to have some information before I see the dermatologist so I know what can and cannot be done. I am nursing a toddler and a 10 month old. Thank you for your time!

    jjr.williams,

We recommend that when lidocaine is used directly into the breast to pump and dump until all feeling is back (no numbness or tingling) and then wait another 6-8 hours past that time on the affected side. You can continue to nurse from the unaffected side without interruption.
