I have a 24 pound 16 month old son whom I breastfeed. He nurses each time for under three minutes each time: in the morning, afternoon, and bedtime. I have high blood pressure. Is Losartan safe to take right now?

    Carriebeth,

Losartan is rated an L3-no data-probably compatible. It is high protein binding so that might limit the amount transferred into breast milk. Your infant is older and not breastfeeding very often so it would probably be ok as long as your infant is not symptomatic. Take the medication after nursing so you have a break before nursing again. Monitor for drowsiness, lethargy, pallor, poor feeding and weight gain.
