  • Bupropion, metformin, fluoxetine

Bupropion HCL SR 200mg twice per day
Metformin HCL 1000mg twice per day
    fluoxetine 20mg once per day.

Have been taking the first two scripts for many years. Currently Nursing a 15 month old. I was just prescribed fluoxetine. I’ve not taken it yet as I’m apprehensive. From what I’ve read online the bupropion can increase the amount of fluoxetine found in milk. Is this accurate? Should I continue with this combo of medications. Thank you for your help.

    Tpeterson123,

According to Lexicomp database taking bupropion and fluoxetine together may enhance the seizure-potentiating effects of the bupropion, and the bupropion may increase the fluoxetine concentrations in the serum. Lexicomp gives it a "C" rating saying to"monitor therapy." As for nursing and taking this combination of meds it is probably ok since your infant is older and has already been exposed to the bupropion. Monitor your infant for sedation or irritability, seizures, not waking to feed/poor feeding and weight gain.
