    Dexilant

Good morning! I currently have a patient who is 2 days post cesaran-section who has been on the drug Dexilant for extreme reflux. Patient states she has tried all the other medications suggested that are safe for breastfeeding but none of them have worked. I looked the medicatin up on LactMed and it did not give me alot of information. Patient is asking about what to look for in infant if there is a problem. Was wondering about half life and molecular weight as well. Patient wants to breastfeeding but can't go without the medication either. Any information would be helpful and appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Shannon:

Dexilant is just a form of lansoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor, like Prilosec, etc.

It is unstable in the GI tract, so I doubt any would ever be absorbed orally by an infant.
