    Is Carmex lip balm safe during early pregnancy? Active ingredient is Camphor 1.7%, Menthol .7%, & Phenol .4%. Salicylic acid is an inactive ingredient.

    Hi, thanks for your post.

    Carmex should be no problem for you during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Animal studies have shown that phenol can be harmful to a fetus, but only in very large amounts. Pretty much anything is harmful in very large amounts. As long as you are not eating the lip balm, you should be OK.

      From the research it is find that salicylic acid should have a big no at the time of pregnancy. If lip will do nothing because in lip balm the quantity of salicylic acid is nearly about 5% and that was not an issue. Most of the doctors are suggest to use this lip balm during pregnancy.
