  • Collagen 1, 2, & 3 pill supplements and Silexin Lavender oil

I've searched the forum for collagen information and in some places it looks like it is OK for breastfeeding, but in another post, perhaps not. I'd like to know if the collagen supplement is safe for me to take - I currently breastfeed my 11-month old in the evening before bed and upon waking in the morning. She takes formula the rest of the day. I'd also like to know if Silexan/lavender oil is safe to take.

    silexan ingredients (1 soft gel):
    silexian English lavender 80mg.
includes canola oil, felatin(softgel), glycerin, sorbitol, anatomy extract color.

    collagen (6 tablets per day):
vitamin c (as calcium ascorbate) 60 mg
collagen 1, 2, 3 blend - hydolyzed collagen bovine and chicken 6000 mg
    other ingredients: magnesium stearate
    Amino acids (in percent): alanine (8.1%), arginine (8.4), aspartic acid (6.6), glutamic acid (12.4), glycine (20.6), histidine (.8), hydroxylysine (1.2), hydroxyproline (11.4), isoleucine (1.5), leucine (2.9), lysine (3.4), methionine (.6), phenylalanine (2.1), proline (11.5), serine (3.4), threonine (1.9), tyrosine (.5), valine (2.4).

Thanks for your expertise and advice!

    Melin28,

"Collagen (or collagen hydrolysate) from a variety of animal sources is used as a dietary supplement and as an injectable, sub-dermal "filler" in cosmetic procedures. Orally, this substance is very safe. It is on the FDA's Generally Regarded as Safe list and we anticipate that it will be completely digested by the mother. As an injection, it is likely to be safe, but there is no literature. These are large molecules that would have trouble getting into the milk, remain mostly in place at the injection site, mimic natural body compounds, and have benign breakdown products." (Medications and Mothers' Milk database, Dr Thomas Hale PhD.)

The herbs we cannot recommend the safety of :
"We have a policy of not commenting on the safety of combination herbal products or mega-doses of vitamins. There is rarely satisfactory literature published on the safety of a complimentary therapy in breastfeeding women. It is not ethical for us to make a recommendation based on anecdotes. Also, herbal products are not regulated by the FDA and there can be significant variations in the potency and purity between different products or even between different lots of the same product. Herbs can also interact with each other and with prescription medications, so we tend to advise not taking them at all. As a general rule, breastfeeding is a time for simplicity. Focus on eating a balanced, nutritious diet and minimizing your use of extraneous stuff. When you do take a med or supplement, make sure that you're making that decision based on a clear understanding of the benefits you are likely to get. Benefits are often a lot better researched and documented than risks." -James Abbey, MD

      Hey Melin28,

I think it is safe to use Lavender oil. Lavender is customarily claimed to have an assortment of restorative and therapeutic properties, extending from inciting unwinding to treating parasitic contamination, consumes, bug chomps, and fit. There is developing confirmation recommending that lavender oil might be a successful medicament in the treatment of a few neurological issue. A few creature and human examinations propose anxiolytic, state of mind stabilizer, calming, pain relieving, and anticonvulsive and neuroprotective properties for lavender.
