Belsomra (suvorexant)

Hello,
I was given 7 days of samples of Belsomra (suvorexant from my doctor for insomnia, which has been causing me to become very anxious at night. I realized that I forgot to mention to my doctor that I'm still nursing. This seems to be a new drug so there isn't much information on breastfeeding with it. I am wondering if it is safe to take. For more info - my son is 8 months old and typically sleeps 8pm to 7am and rarely nurses overnight, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

Belsomra (suvorexant) is rated an L3-no data-probably compatible. It peaks at 2 hours and the half-life is 12 hours. "At this time, it is unknown if suvorexant will enter human milk, the manufacturer reports it enters rodent milk at levels about 9 times greater than maternal plasma. Until human data is available, we recommend the use of other sleep agents with more safety data in lactation such as lorazepam, oxazepam or zopiclone."
