  • CT Scan and Breastfeeding - Being told to Pump and Dump - HELP!

I need to have an abdominal CT scan done. My son will be 13 weeks when the scan is done. I will have to drink the barium (which I have found that it is safe). I will also receive an IV with Isovue 300. I am not finding much information on this medication. Please help. I don't want to have to pump and dump, but will if it is safer. My son does take bottles.
Also if this is not safe, do I have the right to ask for a different drug if there is a safer one?

Isovue is just an intravenous non-radioactive radio contrast agent. They are not at all contraindicated in breastfeeding mothers. I'd suggest you wait 2 to 4 hours, pump and discard once, then go back to breastfeeding.
