  • lamotrigine and breastfeeing--withdrawal possible if breast is not available?

I contacted you a few months ago regarding taking lamotrigine while breastfeeding ( I was diagnosed w a brain cyst causing seizures). As per your recommendation to keep breastfeeding, I am still nursing my now 17 month old son and I currently take 100/mg of the drug daily. He nurses about 3-5 times daily.
In a few weeks I will be away from my son for a bit over 48 hours for a work trip. My question is if this can put my son at risk in any way. Can he go through some type of withdrawal if he doesn’t breastfeed during that time period? Or is he being exposed to such a small amount of the drug that it will not do him any harm?
Thanks for your input on this.

    Dcario:

I rather doubt your infant at this time (17 months postpartum) will go through much of a withdrawal at all.
