  • Vyvanse & 2 month old

I have been on Vyvanse for 15+ years. I took it through the first trimester with both of my pregnancies. I understand it is a Class C drug. I'm in desperate need of starting it again. Is it safe to start back up while breastfeeding my 2 month old? Are there any new studies?

    Arbender,

Vyvanse is rated an L3-limited data-probably compatible. The amount transferred into breast milk is 1.8-6.2% of your dose. The medication is most concentrated in your milk at 3.5 hours and half of the medication is out in 6.8 hours, try to avoid the peak times. We recommend keeping the dose low (around 20-30mg a day) and monitor your infant for agitation, irritability, poor sleeping patterns, poor weight gain. If your infant is not symptomatic it is ok to breastfeed, if your infant is symptomatic wait a little longer to feed after taking a dose.
