  • Nyquil

Is NyQuil safe to use? I'm breastfeeding an 11-month old who typically nurses once per night, and four times during the day. Thank you.

    Kate209,

Nyquil contains tylenol, dextromethorphan and doxylamine. The tylenol and dextromethorphan are probably ok to use, the doxylamine is very sedating. This is the active ingredient in Unisom. It has a long half life of 10.1 hours. It is not recommended in young neonates or infants subject to apnea. Since your infant is older it is probably ok to use for 2-3 days, but long term use is not advised. Monitor your infant for sedation or irritability, poor feedings, and slowed breathing rate.
