  • Prozac and brestfeeding

I currently take 40 mg of prozac 5 times weekly. I also have PCOS and raynaud syndrome and take 1000 mg metformin twice daily, and 20 mg nifedipine 3 times daily. My infant is 19 days old and having problems gaining weight (only 2 oz above what he left the hospital at). I took prozac and metformin during pregnancy. This is my fourth child (third to breastfeed, my third was stillborn at 39 weeks) and I have never had the supply to breastfeed with my other children. It seems as though this time I do have the supply, but my infant is sleepy at the breast and just doesn't take enough. Could this be related to the prozac? At this point should I switch medications? (I've been on prozac for 15 years.)

    Mommamia:

This is a difficult case and I can't really offer you any advice. Go see your pediatrician about your sleepy baby. See a lactation consultant to evaluate your milk production.
